To say that Kirk Kouchnerkavich had a good night at the plate is an understatement. Kirk, a junior CF for the NPC Mustangs went 7 for 7 with 3 doubles, 2 HRs and 8 RBI in the double header with conference foe, West Michigan Christian in Muskegon. In the opener, Kouch went 4 for 4 with two doubles and HR and 5 RBI as the Mustangs won the 5 inning game 14-0.
Mustang’s freshman, Nate Silvey threw a three-hit shutout for his second win of the season.
Nate took a no-hitter into the final inning but it was rumored that the no-hit was jinxed by a teammate in the dugout. The unnamed played apparently used the words, “hits” and “Silvey” in the same sentence.
It was lesson to never mess with baseball’s superstitions!
The Mustangs also got solid hitting from Josh Manuel who went 3 for 3 with 4 RBI and Spence Goebel who hit 2 for 2 scoring 4 runs. Game two of the DH was a make-up game from a previous rain out.
The game remained tight until the Mustangs exploded for 12 runs in innings 4 and 5. The 5 inning game finished 16-6.
Kirk Kouchnerkavich kept his blazing hitting streak going with a 3 for 3 game with a BB, single, double and HR driving in 3 more runs.
Spence Goebel was 3 for 4 with a double, HR and 5 RBI. Ben Talen contributed with three hits and three RBI.
Adam Suwyn had 2 hits; one a 3-run double to end the game. Ben Hill and Josh Manuel also had 2 hits.
Matt Rozelle came in relief on Kouchnerkavich and got his second win of the week and third of the season.
NorthPointe moves to 6-5 on the season.
